Can I send a file to a friend without 3rd party software?

Hello, is there a way I can send a file to a friend (around 2Gb) without any third party software? I'm using Windows 7, I'm not sure what version he is using but I know it's Windows. I want to do it directly. Send the file as if we were using LAN, but we want to use the internet to do this instead.

Exposing Windows file sharing to the Internet is a very bad idea.

Use Hamachi or a file hosting service such as https://mega.co.nz

Bittorrent is best, it involves a very small client at each end but it is secure.

share it over dropbox/skydrive/etc?

Well SkyDrive is technically built into Windows 8 and a product of Microsoft so I guess that is the least 3rd party option of the lot.

Hamatchi is probably best. It just creates the connection.

If you just want to send a single large file as a one-off, there are loads of online services which will do this; here's a few I picked at random:
