I have a macbook pro 13 from 2011. The thing is really quick, only thing that bothers me is when i switch it on, kinda takes a bit of time to settle and let me load apps.

The specs are i7 2.7Gbhz ( i think its the second generation sandy bridge), 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3, and standard HDD). Is there anyway I can speed up the start up, I just upgraded to Mavericks but same thing.

I wanna do fresh install but I don't want to lose my stuff.

Cheers

SSD. That is all :p

Seriously - for as long as you have a standard HDD in that bad boy, nothing else will speed it up as much as swapping it out for a solid state.

From pressing the power button to desktop - my macbook is ready in under 10 seconds - All down to the SSD.

Thanks guys, I knew that SSD will def speed up my mac. But was wondering if I can alter some settings ect... Just downloaded Clean my Mac, I haven't done a fresh install since I bought it. Hopefully this will clear any unnecessary files.

You could check to make sure you haven't got any extra unnecessary stuff running in the background and start-up, and defrag, but as everybody else has said, an SSD is the way to go.

By the way - After you upgrade to Mavericks, it'll run a little slow for a few hours (dependant on how much stuff you have on your Mac) as it has to re-index everything for Spotlight.

SSD, about 15 seconds from the BOOM noise to usable desktop.

On a mid 2010 MBP with bottom of the spec CPU (2.4Ghz c2d) and 8G ram.

I've not done a reinstall either, even just cloned the old HDD to the SSD when I swapped over and it is on SATA2, not SATA3.
