Can i transfer a XP home cd key to XP Pro?

Hi. I have a laptop which came with xp home on it but i needed to reinstall windows due to harddisk failure.

I only had an xp pro disk with me (which i hadn't activated before), so i installed it on the laptop and activated it.

My question is can i change the liseence key on XP pro to the one on XP home? or would pro not accept it?

And if i do do that, will the XP pro lisence key become available again so i cain instlal xp pro on another machine?

Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't have thought so. XP Pro is a different product to XP Home.

You will have to reinstall XP Home from scratch

k so if i reinstall XP home on the laptop (as it was when i bought it), will the XP pro install on another machine (after i activated it on the laptop)?

If it's a retail version of XP Pro then you will be able to transfer it - although you may need to phone Microsoft rather than activating it online. If it's an OEM version of any sort then it's not supposed to be transferrable between machines and you probably won't be able to activate on another computer.
