Can I unlock 4 extra Pipelines?

I have a XFX 6800GS XXX PCI express card which has 12 pipelines. I was wondering can the other four be unlocked so I have 16 like the other 6800 cards?

If it can be done how is it done and will I get a good boost in performance?

I don't think the GS cards can be unlocked as they are based off of the vanilla 6800 core and not the GT/Ultra one... but the core and memory can be clocked higher using rivatuner.

The vanilla 6800 Core, or should I say MY 6800 vanilla core (point of view 6800) had absolutely no problems in unlocking to 16-pipes, 6 shaders. The core itself is no different in construct, its just a core that perhaps will not run at the speeds of a GT/ULTRA, however that is also not a certainty. Mine ran fine at GT speeds (memory didn't however).

The biggest problem that comes with unlocking the newer 6800 cards is that the masking used for the locked quads is more tricky to overcome, even with "enable hardware masked units" checked in rivatuner, my friends 6800 vanilla wouldn't unlock.

So in answer to the original post:

It may well be possible, although the chances are a lot less than they were when the 6800 was new. Get yourself the latest copy of rivatuner, and then post back when you have it installed (unless you already know how to unlock pipes with it).

The 6800GS on PCI-e uses a completely different core to the 6800's. It's a 0.11u 7800 core which cannot unlock.
