Yeah, I guessed it wouldnt, im not confident enough with the plumbing to drain it and change the block. Been trying to decide between a whole new PC or just upgrading the board, cpu and ram but im not sure its worth it really, have the urge to upgrade but im not sure it would be much benefit.

A 7700k is not a worthwhile upgrade from a 6700k, more a sidegrade and a complete waste of money. Either stick with the 6700k and overclock it if it isn't already or change the motherboard and cpu. If you elect to change the motherboard and cpu personally I would only go with AMD's Ryzen, probably a 3700x and a X570 or even a B450 motherboard as long as it'a a MSI Max version or has bios flashback.

I suspect ill probably just go for a complete new system with ryzen 3900, and palm my old pc off to my daughter.

32gb of DDR 4
Since your only upgrade path is the 7700K ain't worth because it is the same CPU.
You have you consider sell and change to something with better upgrade path? A B550 or B450 Tomahawk Max with a 3600 will serve you well and there is 4000 series to upgrade and all way to 16 core CPUs.

Current Z390 boards are dead end and so are the upcoming 400 series and their CPUs. (the new 400 would be as short lived at the Z270 just mere 9 months).

Otherwise again sell everything, buy a good cheap Z370 board and a 9900K second hand, assuming you find them cheaper than a 3600/3700X with B550 (next week) or B450 Tomahawk MAX.

What's your RAM speed?

Its rated 3200, but i cant get it to run above 2933 in my current board. Would i be able to re-use that?

Still using my 3600C16 Ripjaws V ram got with the 6700K "half decade" ago.
And currectly working at 3800C16 atm with a Ryzen 3900X, having worked at 4133C17 with the 8600K and 6850K.

Thats some good value! Ive got 32gb at the mo, so was hoping not to have to upgrade it too. Just cant decide whether to upgrade or bite the bullet and go for the 3900x and a whole new pc or hang fire till the next lot of gpus and the 4000 series come out next year.

Since you have an ancient 6700K why looking for 3900X? If you do not plan to use all the cores, get a 3700X/3800X.

You can always upgrade to 4000 series all way to 16 cores. Just make sure you wait a week to see if the new B550 boards worth, otherwise my budget pick would be the B450 Tomahawk MAX.

Not on a budget persay, so may as well just get the best. But that might be a decent option just now, ill consider that one, cheers :)

The 3900X is a fantastic processor. Got mine less than a week ago but I am loving it as an upgrade to my 1700.

Very excited about tomorrow :D

Not sure ill see that much difference in games going from 1080ti to a 2080ti and the cpu upgrade but fingers crossed. My daughter is inheriting my old machine anyway so everyone is happy.
