Can I upgrade my old Dell GX240?

I've had this computer since I bought it from dell 10 years ago. Its run well to this day but even bridge commander isn't running anymore and internet explorer is very slow, and Flash is out of the question. What can I do because I don't really want to buy a new one because I've had it for years and it has all my stickers and decorations from uni ages ago and I've grown close to it :p But the main reason is that I can place my big CRT monitor on top of it (by desk isn't very long)

Spec: Pentium 4 1.8Ghz
512mb DDR ram
40GB IDE (250GB External)
DVD Rom
Graphics: Rage 128 pro ultra gl agp
Power: 120W
Windows XP

Can I change the motherboard on it or something or change the processor, I upgraded the ram and CD player ages ago and changed the power supply about 5 years ago when it blew so I have a little experience and I have looked up things on the internet, What do I do, I definitely want to keep the box.
thank you :/

Being a Dell I would be surprised you will be able to re-use the case as Dell would have used there own brackets to mount the motherboard and components and own connectors for the power switch and LED'S.

Your best bet is start a fresh with a compete build, do you have a budget in mind.

well I have a budget of around £300 but the case is a must, can I not stick a sandybridge in or something? I have a really old machine with a pentium 2 in it if it makes much difference, I could probably reuse something?

Not really, as you would need new RAM, PSU and the case will be unique and probably won't fit the motherboard.

Being a Dell from that era, I'm going to guess there is not a chance anything will fit. You mentioned you had a CRT - I wonder if it's possible to include a new monitor.

So how do I find a box which will hold my heavy crt monitor so the air wont get blocked and isn't too big as I took a trip to currys and the machines are too big and won't hold my monitor, my machine is sleek and sturdy.
:?

hmm is there definitely no chance of upgrading my old system, I was looking at these super fast solid state drives and a fast pentium 4 or something, realised that I can't use a sandybridge on my motherboard! maybe even upgrade the graphics card, I've got my eyes on a OCUK 460GTX, I also did a google and found a 3.2Ghz pentium 4. and could get some second hand DDR sticks and make it a 1GB with windows 7, should I even bother, I can't part with my machine!

Your old GPU is AGP, the Ocuk 460 runs of PCI-E slot which is the new AGP for many years now.

You can buy the items second hand but you will need to check the motherboard can handle the new cpu as it may need a BIOS update.

You are paying for a dead platform essentially. The GTX460 won't run on your PSU anyway and I doubt the mobo has a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot.

Is it possible for you to save up to buy a better system?

Well you definitely can't keep the case, googling it, the motherboard does not look normal ATX standard motherboard. No way a normal motherboard's screwholes will match the case's without some sort of modding! What does the case look like by the way, there seems to be 3 different types of the GX240?

and if I can't upgrade it, can I get a similar styled case so I can pop my monitor on top?

thats not my picture, nicked it of google, and no because the table slots neatly into a fireplace hole thingy and if I put it underneath I'd have no room for my massive legs and if I put it on the side the monitor won't fit.

Christ, GX240. We have GX280s at work and they are painfully slow. I wouldn't even both mate, just buy a new system. Everything in that GX240 will be so old that everything would need to be replaced, then all you'd be left with is a case that won't support the new components.
