Hello all. This is my first post, so excuse me if i get anything wrong!

I'm trying to play some of the new games out there (Far-cry 4, for example) and i'm particularly interested in Star wars Battlefront and Fallout 4. My Rig just won't play Far-cry 4. This is what i have:

"Titan Nero" AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 2.90GHz DDR2 System.

I bought it from Overclockers in 2009!!

Can this be upgraded or do i have to start again? And if so on either option, please may i ask for some guidance? Obviously either option needs to be 'future proof' to some degree.

Kind regards

Az.

Tbh that CPU uses a pretty old socket for which there isn't any worthwhile upgrade path. If you had to replace the CPU and motherboard, how much would you be willing to spend?

Upgraded? Not practically, no. Your base system is quite old now so you'd be looking at a major upgrade of most components.

The first thing you need to do is decide on a budget and what your performance expectations are - for games to look good at 1080p? For games to run on ultra settings and 1440p? Will you want a monitor and Windows?

Let us know and we can help spec a good system for you.

Oh, and welcome to the forums :)

Thank you very much chaps!

Ok, so a new rig it is!

My Budget will be around the £700 mark. I won't need a monitor but will need an operating system.

It very kind to offer to spec me ExRayTed. And thank you for welcoming me!

As for my expectations? Well, I'm a middle aged gamer that plays CSS mostly but as stated, want to move on somewhat. I'm not too up to date computer tech wise, but know that perhaps i should have a 256GB SSD and a i7 4th gen.
The most bang for the buck basicly! Does this make sense or am i well out of that price range? As for graphics, i'm not too bothered on who makes it and it would probably make sense to get the card that's just been replaced by it's predecessor! So it's the cheaper option ;)

No CPU cooler

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £707.08
(includes shipping: £13.20)

Would be my take on it. Gets you a significant upgrade over what you have now. i7 isn't required for gaming - an i5 is still more than sufficient. The only downside is that you won't have a HDD for storage but you may be able to reuse the HDD in your current system.

Chaps, you have done me proud!

One question:

I'm tempted to double up on the 8GB of RAM, as youcan never have enough!

Any thoughts?

Just to be sure. Will this set up play the new games (Battlefront, Fallout etc) in top quality? i.e. For games to run on ultra settings and 1440p?

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated

Az

Note that you will be able to move your HDDs across from the old system to the new. You should double-check that you require a new licence for Windows. Did you buy an OEM licence or a retail one? Can you re-use your case? That would save you a little money too.
