Not really all that clued up on ram, so was wondering if my mobo / system will be ok with 3 x 1gb sticks of ram? all the same brand and chips... I've perused the manual for the mobo but im not really any the wiser.

just i managed to pick a stick up for £7 as I couldnt resist at that price.

at the mo im running vista 64, on an Abit ab9 pro mobo with an e2160.

im wanting to use 3 gb of pc-4200 533 ram (using 2 at mo running at 333mhz)

any info would be great ta

Yeah you can use three 1gb sticks.

But you'll lose dual-channel mode. Whether that has an effect depends of how much you will use the third gig. If you are often maxing out your current 2gb then the third gig will be an advantage. If you don't max out your current 2gb then losing dual-channel will affect performance a little.

And ofcourse the new stick may not clock as far as your current sticks, thus lowering your CPU overclock.

But for 7 quid it's certainly worth testing it out.

cool thanks for the info, i'll give it a go,

just noticing ram topping out in certain games using vista 64bit.... gotta be worth trying then for £7, if im not happy sure i can get double my money for it on a certain auction site.

i'll keep my eyes peeled for another stick - and have the 4 in dual channel mode, take it that would be an advantage.

will let you know how i get on with the OC etc...

cheers

well it works fine, and with no noticable slow down considering im loosing dual channel mode (3x 1gb sticks)

lost 0.3 n/s latency timing in evererst benchy.. so im happy with it for £7 - plus it went straight in at 333mhz without a hiccup.
