Can I use an AFD Lens on old Film body

Thinking can I use a Nikon Auto focus AFD lens (not G type) on an old manual focus film body like the FE2? (Obviously it won't auto focus ;)
Just thinking will the electrical contacts foul anything or get damaged, or rear element hitting the mirror etc, or did Nikon keep forward and backward compatibility going.

Would allow me to use newer lens manually on film body, saves doubling up!
 
Just picked up a FE2 with a 24 F2.8 Nikkor lens, was thinking to get a recent 50mm AFD F1.4 for my D7000 and also use it on FE2.... Similarly the manual 24mm lens can be used on the Digital body.... happy to back with Nikon :D

I've now done a "Buy it now" and bagged an excellent looking 50mm F1.4 AFD for £179 from a seller/shop on the auction site.
 
I was only referring to the table of data showing compatibility etc.. very handy reference and not to subjective ;)
Any way job done :)
