Can I use PCI-E x1 card in PCI-E x16 slot?

I was wondering...is it possible to use PCI-E x1 cards in any PCI-E slots? even though the port is wider that the card's expansion section that goes into the port?

for e.g. I have a PCI-E x1 Wi-Fi card.. (Intel 4965ABGN)
my mobo (that arrives tomoz) has (in this order):
1 x PCI-E x16
1 x PCI-E x1
1 x PCI
1 x PCI-E x16 (running at x4)

now if I wanted to put a GPU on the x16 port then (depending on size of the GPU) I may not be able to use my x1 wifi card on the x1 port - would I be able to put the wifi card in the x16(x4) port?

A pcie card will work in any sized pcie slot. My asus xonar DX has been in them all at some point. Poor thing must think it's in a game of musical chairs.:D
