Hi
Buying a mini-itx pc for the livingroom for streamed media/internet access and need some advice, thanks.

I'm on Virgin Media Cable, and currently I have a long cat5 cable coming from my Router going into the livingroom feeding my Squeezebox music streamer.

I want to bring in a pc to the livingroom which will have to be networked, so now there is a need for multiple access points.

My question is this:

I have a BT Business Hub
http://www.btbroadbandoffice.com/broadband/router-information/2700hgv-product-details
which is a combined ADSL router / hub / wireless extender and I wonder if this will be of use to me in my situation.

As all I want to do is use the functionality of a hub and wireless extender, can I use the BT Business Hub for this?

If so, is it just a case of plug and play (i.e. plug the ethernet cable coming from my cable router in another room into it to make it now Networked and then just connect up my Squeezebox and new livingroom PC, makeing them all talk to each other and visible to the network?

I'm unsure about the fact that the BT Business Hub is ADSL and my ISP is Virgin Media, i.e. cable.

I'm thinking that once the "signal" gets through the router its just a normal ethernet feed, and the fact that the BT Business Hub is ADSL would't make any difference?

Just trying to save buying a hub/wireless extender if I dont need to! :)

Thanks very much for any replies!

I think you should be able to get away with it... I've used D-Link Wireless ADSL routers as WAPs before. As long as you can 'disable' the ADSL modem functionality - It should work.

Although it is associated with BT... so no promises ;)

If you want to use it as a basic access point then yes it'll work. the WIFI interface and ethernet ports are bridged @ datalink. You should just need to ensure there's no DHCP turned on.
