Hi. Work has recently moved all machines over to office 365 including one drive.

Can I use it at home on my normal home laptop. Or is there a down side to that.

Just curious as home laptop has a older version of office on it

Thanks

Depends what licence you have attached to your account, if you've got business premium then your allowed to install it on upto 5 devices using your details.

Thanks guys.

Only issue I see ( there maybe none) is that I use OneDrive at work. I wouldn’t really want that on home machine

I wouldn't be too keen on linking my OneDrive to my home PC.

From a security perspective, it would mean syncing all my work documents onto my Home PC (a big no-no), and secondly if i had an infected file with malware/cryptolocker virus that got onto the OneDrive share and synced back to my work PC, that would be a big no-no as well.

I just have word and Excel on my personal computer and turned the online syncing features off. Basically turns it into a stand alone package.
Though at work we don't use the online stuff due to company policy and security.

You log into OneDrive separately it doesn't automatically log you into a business OneDrive account when installing office 365.

Absolutely. I have no need for work files at home. I have OneDrive app on my iPhone that just has my work account connected

home use plan has died and become an annual subscription, so this business 365 option sounds interesting, but,
wouldn't a company distribute the 5 licenses amongst 5 users ? so there wouldn't be spares ? ... need to find out what we have.

No, each user needs a license (called a subscription), and each subscription allows that user to install Office on 5 devices. As long as you have an installtion free you can install it on your home device adn activate it using your work office 365 login. This is a very common scenario.

Bump - does the above still work and how do I get the work licence on my home pc?

Any organisation worth their salt won't let you even log in to a corporate O365 from a personal device unless they have strict O365 compliance policies. I'm still not sure why in this day and age, this is so hard to comprehend.
