Can Incompatible Memory Cause Errors Despite Not Being Faulty?

Pretty much self explanatory in the title - bought this for my Ryzen build on MM:

Silly should have checked for compatibility but thought this isn't such a problem anymore.

Running on MSI B350 Tomahawk with Ryzen R5 1600 - the memory isn't on the compatibility list (strangely the 3200mhz ver is but not the 3000mhz). The memory boots up fine but it took me ages to get it to boot up to at just 2666mhz and neither of the XMP 2800 or 3000 would load.

I've ran a memtest (the windows 10 one) and it said there are issues with it.

The memory apparently ran fine on the previous owners Intel setup.

Will it be giving errors in memtest simply because of the motherboard incompatibility ?

Any thoughts appreciated but I guess easiest way to test is to get another set of ram and check if that works fine.

I had corsair lpx 3200, max stable speed 2933 c16 due to it being Hynix based.

Now have 8 pack 3200 , it runs at 3466 c15 on the same motherboard as it is better quality and Samsung b die based.

Best performing ram for ryzen is Samsung b die based, what max speed you get depends on motherboard and cpu overclocking ability.

Yes is the answer to your question. Ram can be fine whilst bios incompatible.

Ryzen for example is running everything at 1t command rate automatically which is too tight for most dimms and ic to maintain speed. They are all tested at 2T by the manufacturer.

Thanks - what I've asked though is whether the ram will be giving errors in memtest because of the incompatibility with motherboard though, might just get better mem to test but at that point I could also just upgrade the motherboard and not have that problem most likely.

Wish I had just gone with the bundle instead of being skint hah.

Switch to my DIMMS Job done!!!

Think I will have to, are the C16s due to be in stock also Samsung b die or is it just the C14?

Ordered the 8pack C14 3200mhz sticks, hope these work fine! Unsure if it was worth going for the 3600mhz ver for £11 more but from reviews these OC well too so I'm unsure if there is any actual difference between these sets.

Just finished testing the corsair ram @2133 stock default all auto settings and it's giving the error again on memtest - does that mean the modules are faulty and need RMA :( ??

The 3600 are higher bin so worth 11 quid I would say but 3200 are a great kit we are selling hundreds per month currently with very little issue at all so you should be fine.

If I get chance tomorrow I will verify on your board with latest bios.

Thanks, thought I ordered too late for next day delivery but it shipped yesterday so will have it today - only got the 3200mhz kit so hope that's fine, will report back :).

Yeah will be fine I am sure. Latest Bios XMP go.....

First boot all auto 3200mhz CL14 right away, couldn't boot at 3333mhz (must be mobo and my crappy CPU as it doesn't go over 3.75ghz) but got the mem down to CL13, no messing around very happy with the kit :).
