I have recently wasted £40 on an Akasa Front panel thingy that is totally useless. It has 3.5mm jacks that I can plug into the back of the SoundCard and thats fine if oyu never use Speakers, but come on!
Anyway, Im looking at the pins on things and I am wondering...
Can this device still be used?
The card that I want to put it to is an XFI-GAMER
The Gamer is a model that has the Intel / AC97 Header on it... Im not entirely sure which one to be honest but the XFI shows up as HI-Def Audio Device in Dev Mgr, so I assume its the Intel compatible one?
Anyway, the Akasa front panel has only 3 pins for the Audio input, anmd these are unsurprisingly, LEFT, RIGHT and GROUND. These pins are obviously also available on both the AC97 and the intel Header
So, I was wondering...
Can I somehow con the XFI into thinking that I have connected headphones into the Akasa?
I know that it has the SENSE_SEND pin ( 7 ) and the PRESENCE pin ( 4 ) so can I do anything here?
I also know that AC97 has a 5v line so I am a tad iffy on just messing about "Just in case"
Can anyone shed anythign on this or am I just flogging a dead one?
Many thanks.
