Behind you... Naked!
I have recently wasted £40 on an Akasa Front panel thingy that is totally useless. It has 3.5mm jacks that I can plug into the back of the SoundCard and thats fine if oyu never use Speakers, but come on!

Anyway, Im looking at the pins on things and I am wondering...

Can this device still be used?

The card that I want to put it to is an XFI-GAMER

The Gamer is a model that has the Intel / AC97 Header on it... Im not entirely sure which one to be honest but the XFI shows up as HI-Def Audio Device in Dev Mgr, so I assume its the Intel compatible one?

Anyway, the Akasa front panel has only 3 pins for the Audio input, anmd these are unsurprisingly, LEFT, RIGHT and GROUND. These pins are obviously also available on both the AC97 and the intel Header

So, I was wondering...

Can I somehow con the XFI into thinking that I have connected headphones into the Akasa?

I know that it has the SENSE_SEND pin ( 7 ) and the PRESENCE pin ( 4 ) so can I do anything here?

I also know that AC97 has a 5v line so I am a tad iffy on just messing about "Just in case"

Can anyone shed anythign on this or am I just flogging a dead one?

Many thanks.

don't know if you can fool it.

i did the same thing, bought a fan controller and the audio jack required me to route behind the computer and plug into the speaker output. Well this was not what i wanted, i needed speakers in the back and front panel for headphones.

Anyway i hooked it up anyway and was getting a lot electrical interference(?) so that piece of cable went straight in the bin.

Now i got a plantronics switcher instead but recently forgot and got another mini fan controller for £5 with the intel spec audio header, but have not had time to hook that up to see if its any better.

ahh all this cos the bloody akasa case didnt have it by default
so i chucked that cable in the

Yes, considering this thing cost me £30 ( £40 delivered ) you would thiink that they would have AC97 at the very least.

Its all packed back up now and I have been in touch with the suppliers about getting it returned so see what they say.

I wonder how many others follow that same route as Akasa. I know Scythe do, but why! That's almost as useless as a PC case having the USB sockets underneath.
