i3 faster than AMD Phenom II 955.

really need a Quad Core ;)
Money don't grow on trees in OP's backyard :p

The i3 2100 is a very decent CPU that's faster than Core2Quad or Phenom II X4 at 3.6GHz on gaming performance, despite it is only a dual-core. More cores is not always better or faster...Bulldozer have already proved this.

but bf3 uses 4 cores, hell my 4ghz 955 was 98% usage majority of the time on all high settings @ 1080...

Actually BF3 uses at least 6 cores as far as I know.

i3 2100 is AS FAST AS a Phenom II X4 at 3.7-3.8GHz EVEN in games that use 4 cores or more, but with just half the power consumption under load (65W TDP vs 140W TDP+) and doesn't require a 3rd party CPU cooler to keep the temp under control. In games that use less than 4 cores (majority of the games only uses 2~3 cores), the overclocked Phenom II X4 is SLOWER than the i3 2100.

just to throw a spanner in the works what about the amd 3850 cpu apparantly its best cpu under £100 as far as reviews go and is better value than any i3 as isnt far behind

It's the best CPU for under £100 for people that want to game on PC but can't afford decent graphic card. CPU wise it is quite a lot slower than the 2100.
