Hi Guys,

I would like to pick your brains, I have the Virgin Media D-link wireless router and
the standard modem that looks like a PS3 lol.

What I would like to know is, can I set something up so a device on the network
gets there internet connection cut off at a certain time of the day.
EG Monday - Friday starting time at 9PM till 9AM???

I have had a look on the router and I can't see anything on there, I noticed the
schedules thing and added one but it just adds it and don't specify anything
that can be done with that schedule.

Any help would be great guys, even if you know of a programme I can download
to stop access to certain devices.

Cheers

P.S. Should put that I want to block internet access to my kids Xbox so need something I can block his IP with
at times stated above.

Does XBOX live not have parental controls?

Id read the manual and see if there is a way to get the schedule function. This can be done with certain routers or firmwares but Im not familiar with the specific one VM provide.

I have looked on the Parental Controls on the Xbox and they only let you specify an
amount of time it can be used every day not a specific time frame it can be used.

I have figured out the Schedule thing on the router and set a schedule and blocked access
with his MAC address but it don't seem to want to work, not matter what I change.

Better solution is surely to educate your child, set the time limits with him, set the consequences for breaking them and follow through. I would suggest loss of xbox entirely for a 24hr period every time he is caught using it outside the acceptable window and if caught multiple times xbox relocated out of his bedroom.

Yeh I agree with you totally m8 but my wife is more lenient than I am, If I set
a limit I stick to it, she doesn't. So wanted to do something I can control because
the wife knows nothing about routers and internet and stuff.

At the minute I have taken all his battery packs away and hidden then and I
am taking it away from him for at least a week now, since I have given him small
restrictions before and he don't seem to be getting it.

Much better plan, this way he gets to learn a valuable lesson, just remember if you say a week you have to stick to it. I'd be a big advocate of moving it out of his room until he has earned the right to have it back in his room.

I have the same router that i have installed DD-WRT on & in there is a 'Access Restriction' section where you can set all kinds of blocks, including XboxLive.
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=13599.0 is a good place to start.
Also DD-WRT is MUCH better than the standard D-Link firmware.

Sk1n

I was just about to suggest this, not only is it more stable firmware, it has far more options, including access restriction.
