Hey all, Long time lurker and former member (couldn't for life of me remember my username!)

Not sure if this is right forum, couldn't see a troubleshooting section.

Anyone know the source of this issue, basically whenever I am watching a video or listening to audio (vcl player, youtube, doesnt matter, even sometimes when I plug my phone in the ding dong gets micro buzz) I will get a micro buzz, you know that brief buzzing sound you would get just before your PC hangs or goes to BSOD. I get that and its driving me mad.

I intially thought it was my ram becuase ive always had trouble with this g.skill 1866 kit I have, and needed to bump up the voltage to get it stable at full speed and would often bsod. After changing voltage it was stable but would get this micro buzz, so I bought a new kit of vengance 1600 to test and its still the same.

Here's my setup

i7 3770
GA-Z77-DS3H
Corsair Vengenance 16gb 1600hmz
MSI 390
Corsair RM850

Now, I cant remember if I had this issue on windows 8.1??! but I had my ram issue then. Now im using windows 10 and I have tried the realtek driver and am currently using the windows audio driver but makes no difference.

Is it worth trying a soundcard? thinking of getting a cheap Xonar DG and hopefully sorting this.

Any idea's?

Thanks

Edit:realised the topic title makes little sense.....

is it continuous or just every now again... see if your CPU spikes a lot when it happens or check your temperatures in case it is only happening above a certain temp ... I'm guessing you have updated your gfx drivers etc. If you have then maybe try an older driver to see if it just a software issue. Could also try and play around with the ram by using just 1 stick and see if you still get the same issue.

Sorry... this probably isnt much of a help and you probably already tried all of this.

Hi

its just now and then, maybe a handful of times a day

had various drivers for grachics, installed windows many times. Might try using the other dimm slots though maybe, its definately not the actually ram as im using a brand new kit and still getting same issue

i'm thinking maybe its the onboard audio on my cheap motherboard?

Cool, take a look at the temps of your cpu, motherboard and gpu and keep a note of the temps when it happens and then see if they are only happening over a certain temperature. Might be worth checking the heatsink, looking at the cooling and just having a general clean up. Keep an eye on the CPU usage when it happens too in case you have other programs running in the background that are maxing anything out.

Hi, yea temps are fine, i keep on eye on them anyway when I fresh install, I have closed loop cooler on my cpu, they are around 30-45 when using youtube, listening to music etc. It can happened anytime, regardless of load. For instance, I can turn on my pc, use youtube and get one right away. Then go teh whole day without it and get one when I watch a movie.

Running LatencyMon (get here) helped me resolve my audio issues. Was getting crackling noises when playing back audio. Ended up removing Asus's audio drivers & running stock Windows ones & also AI Suite utility which resolved the problem.

Ok, so Ive uninstalled the atheros lan drivers which are pretty old and let windows handle it, ill see what happens now

With cpu throttling? is this the same as step down, stopping it from going to 1.6ghz at idle, do I really want to have my cpu running max all the time?

Update:

ive ran this test for over an hour (only 20mins on screenshot as i changed my ssd to performance)

so far no dropouts after uninstalling athoros lan drivers, one thing though I get a constant stream of pagefaults though its not as yet causing a dropout, do people still use no pagefile with windows 10, currently letting samsung magician sort that out.
