Can low disk space cause freezing?

My PC was freezing after a few mins of being on. I couldn't work out why. I tried to install Office the other day, but was out of disk space. My main C drive is only 120GB and I had about 200MB left. It's been this way for ages. So I moved my music library to free up 30GB and installed Office.

Since then my PC hasn't locked up once. I've even had it running for the last 48 hours with no freezing at all.

It seems like this could be the problem but I just wanted to know for sure that low disk space can cause lockups before I go out and splurge on a larger SSD drive.

Your PC is writing temporary files all the time, plus it may need to access page file presuming it's on C drive.

If the C drive has no space Windows won't function correctly.

Moving your paging/swap file to to a different drive, will save the need for a new drive. Unless your drives are >80% full.
