hello all,
ive just built my new machine & quietness was high on my agenda but on switching the system on ive noticed a high pitched whine which i can only think is coming from the mobo itself (not the NB fan) - is this possible?
All componants are new (apart from mobo which ive bought from a mate) & are as follows:-
mobo = DFI Lan Party UT nf4 ultra (should have been DFI Lan Party nf4 sli DR but my mate had swapped that into his machine as he was having intermittant crashes which ended up being the memory & i didn't see the point of pulling it back out of his machine as the mobos are almost identical)
PSU = Hiper modular 580W
Graphics card = Powercolor Radeon X850XT
Sata hard drive = Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10
Ram = Geil 2gb PC3200 value kit
cooler = Zalman CNPS9500
Ive unplugged the graphics card to see if the noise was from there (its not)
ive tried different cooler fans etc
the only option i havent tried is a different PSU but i dont think the noise is from that area anyway. (it appears to be coming from the graphics card area)
Has anybody had any experience of noises from these mobo's?
n.b. its not a loud whine but as the system is set up in a bedroom & needs to be left running overnight it becomes annoying to say the least :(

It could be the toroidal inductors.
thanks for the reply Sputnik, is this a 'known' issue on this board? Also can i do anything about it or do i go to bed with ear-muffs on? ;)

yup, i think i know what u mean, i've got a dfi board with water cooling and when its on silent, i.e i physically hold the pump and yank out ALL fans, there is a definate humming from somewhere..

it aint the PSU either cause i've got a seasonic 600w in a antec p180 case so its relatively far away from the area giving out noise as are the hard drives.. using my trusty noise finding tool, my ear :D

when its left on overnight, even though far from noisey, you just seem to find yourself listening out for the hum, and once found, it haunts you!

how old is your board as this mobo is only approx 6 months old so i am wondering if it coud be replaced under its warranty due to this noise.
It really is frustrating!! :(

I know that noise!
A kind of squealing that varies depending on load.
mine does it, but fortunately it doesnt bother me.

some people have cured this problem on other boards by gently twisting the wire on the toroidal inductors. You might be able to use a hot melt glue gun on them just to stop any movement/vibration.
