Can my motherboard take?

Hi my motherboard is this:

Gigabyte G1.SNIPER 5 Motherboard
(Socket 1150, Z87 Express, DDR3, S-ATA 600, XL ATX, Haswell, Supports 4thGeneration IntelCore Processors, GIGABYTE UEFI Dual BIOS)

Now I think their was a bios update that allowed devils canyon chips. And I would like to replace my 4770k for one of these

No you can't put a 4930k on your motherboard ! 4930 k is Ivy bridge-E, socket 2011 and chipset X79.

It does indeed support Devil's Canyon ("Haswell Refresh") with BIOS F9.

But as Ukaz says the 4930K is NOT Devil's Canyon. You're probably thinking of the i7-4790K, which is a very small upgrade from your 4770K.

Stay with your 4770K, you won't be able to upgrade much higher without a new motherboard.

Shame I wanted some more cores for DX12/Vulkan on the cheap(ish). Looks like I will be waiting on Zen.

Waste of money to spend £400 on a 4930 anyway your not far or the price of a second hand 5820k for circa £250 and a new x99 board for £180+ at that price which will give you access to more modern Io and an upgrade route to a Oct or deca core broadwell-e CPU Dow the line if you want more cores
