The standard Windows mouse pointer (in Windows 7) is a "wire outline" around a white space. It doesn't show up particularly well on a white background.

Is there any easy way of changing it (e.g. to a bright yellow centre) without resorting to some specialist software?

Just a random thought . . .

Actually, I have just looked (Under Control Panel) and changed it to a thicker border - should be much better.

Indeed, you can change it in the Control Panel. You can also download new/other cursors online if you want something that isnt in the default cursor list.

I've got an inverted one which I downloaded off the internet that I use. I've had the same problem as you spotting my mouse on a dual monitor setup. I'll post a link later when I'm home. It just contains a zip file with the .inf so you can install it if you wish.

Weren't there loads of options in earlier versions of Windows (95, 98 etc)? I seem to remember dinosaur mouse pointers.

I remember using gaming styled ones back in the days... they look so silly and distracting now :(.
