As my foray into healthier eating continues, I got some whole wheat pasta first, then bulgur wheat and pearl barley (should have gotten pot barley for wholegrain though, will get that next time).

I've just learned how to cook the grains in a pilaf style with olive oil, and use honey and cardamom for a little sweet (modified halwa recipe with honey instead of sugar, olive oil instead of ghee), or my usual pasta sauce / pesto for normal dinner.

Can this also be done with the pasta? Not that its needed.

Going to be trying pearl barley pilaf today, I made it normal boiled the first time and it has no flavour compared to the other carbs, but the best texture from the grains popping when chewed.

The whole wheat pasta was a stop gap anyway because I didn't know about the whole grain stuff when I got it.

Then theres also wild rice which is meant to be the healthiest and tastiest grain you can get - but its £5 for just 250g so no.

Bulgur Wheat pilaf is yum.

Also can't actually find whole grain pot barley for sale, only pearl barley.
