Hi

I have a Synology NAS drive that I can read and copy from but cannot write to.

This happened after my boot drive went bust. Now I have a brand new PC and the issue is still there.

Logging into the Synology interface it seems every user has read/write access but this is somehow not being applied.

Any ideas? I could reset back to defaults.

Usually you will have both group and user permissions IIRC if a user is in a group with restricted permissions that will override their individual permissions.

Looks like all users and all groups have read/write permissions. Still can only read though
Are you browsing to the drive through explorer or have you properly mapped it?
Browsing you take on guest permissions which Windows cannot handle now but if you map it you enter user credentials and then as an logged in user you should have full access.

I'm double clicking on it via explorer which takes me to it's login page in a browser - is that what you mean? Then I enter the generic Synology login. Forgive me I'm beyond my technical experience.

No thats not what I mean.

From File explorer, click on "This PC" on the left and then on the right it shows your your HDD. Click the three dots for "more" options just above your HDD and click "Map network drive" - then you go through putting in the IP and your login credential and it will work.

Not forgetting to click on 'Remember my credentials' to make sure it continues to work.

I'm on w11 if that makes a difference. I can get to map network drive and then have no idea what to do. I can browse from there to my network but the NAS doesn't show up there, in Explorer it shows up in Network Locations. There's nothing under Network.. Sorry to be a pain.

Don’t apologise, it’s not my files I can’t reach lol.
You have to put the IP in for your NAS. I would honestly suggest using your favourite AI to guide you through mapping a network drive. Will be far more thorough than I.

Okay, I'm creating a step-by-step guide with screenshots but I need some info first.
What is the name of your NAS?
What is the name of one of your shared folders?
Have you created an ID for you on the NAS? If not, do it now. What is it?
