I'm sorry about the previous post and the use of 'text' speech, i was unaware that it was frowned upon as i am new to the forum. In future posts i will try my hardest not to use it. i wanted some help in choosing a cpu for a new pc im planning to build, i have a max budget of £700 and am torn between the Q6600 and the E2180. I have heard that the E2180 overclocks very well and it is a great deal cheaper than the Q6600 which would allow me to spend the saved money on better quality components elsewhere, such as a nicer case, more ram... and so on. however if the Q6600 is a great deal more powerful than the E1280 (i will use the pc mainly for gaming) i would be willing to put in the extra money. Also if i was to get the E1280 what motherboard and cooler would work best when overclocking it i had in mind the Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P and a Tuniq Tower would that be enough to clock it to 3.0ghz+?

thanks for your advice, and once again i apologise for the previous use of text speech

Well i can tell you with confidence that `text` speak is a no no around here and you would get more replies typing properly :)
just a friendly warning :)

really? oh i'm sorry i didn't realise, looks like i'm going to need a dictionary because my english is awful now, too much texting and online gaming has screwed up my vocabulary :) but thanks for the warning dude i'l definetly keep it in mind.

lame i am sorry, i'm new to the forum and didn't know. i will try hard not to do it anymore, it's just a bad habit of mine. Might actually do me some good to use real english for a change

Hey hey, welcome to the forums.

Here is a small review that has the 2160 and 2140 chip in, unfortunatly the 2180 is sadly missing, any way, in the benchmarks it overclocks the said chips and comapres them to an extreme edition qx6700 quad core running at stock, and in general the overclocked budget chips win on the majority of tests. They are ridiculouasly easy to overclock and even a novice could do it fairly hassel free.

What parts to do you need? just the system or everything from monitor to keyboard and an operating system? Tell me what you need and i'll run up two different specs for you, one with quad one with out, just so you can see the advantages you would gain.

wow would you really? that would be awesome, i am basically building the system, i have an old monitor, keyboard and mouse that i can use for now so they are not a nercesity at the moment, i have about £650-£720 to spend preferably as low as possible though :) i am a student after all

I'l check out that link now as well thanks for the welcome :)

okily, first up we have a E2180 and a OcUK GTX 768mb, you've got an aftermarket cooler there so you should be able to clock that baby up to 3.2 no prob and the whole thing should run like the clappers with that GTX in it.

Secondly we have a the quad Q6600 with one of the new GT's in, (the new GT's are acutally better than the present GTS's by the way). Very fast CPU should be able to overclock to at lest a 3.4 prob 3.6.

two systems are identical apart from the CPU and GPU. depends which componant you want the fastest, personally i'd go for the quad core and GT.

sweet dude thats awesome i might have 2 get a cheaper case or something, or just not go out drinking 4 a couple of weeks lol, actually if i had my new pc i would not want to go out anyway :) thanks

hmmm maybe a e2180 and 8800gt set up? is the gtx really worth the extra money (i don't play at high resolutions because my monitor is pretty old)?

lol, well i hear the corsair 520w will outperform the q6600, :P, anyway enough banter.

reviesed spec, got the e2180 in with a Evga GT, Evga = life time gaurentee), also dropped the case down a couple of notches. Over clock to 3.2 and you should be able to run all games at top spec at say 1280 x 1024. If you feel like spending a bit more you can upgrade to a superclocked GT or buy a new monitor. hope that helps.

lol does he really think i am that stupid? i have built computers before im not a complete noob. i just thought i would get some advice from people more in the know than myself

lol I'm sure he meant know harm.

I remember a thread on here though where somebody wanted a spec and someone posted a PSU and said it was the cpu, and they beleived him lol.

huh? i am confused thats a power supply, is that what u meant to say? or have u given me the wrong link?

If that member had more than 14 posts id think he was taking the mik.....as it is im not so sure he wasnt trying to be serious :o
