Hi, I am looking at getting a new graphics card and have been out of the loop for a while. So can some one explain what the difference is beteween having either 48 or 36 pixel processors?

I am tempted to get the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-053-CO) on this weeks deal, but have seen similar cards with 36 pixel processors, that are about £40 cheaper.

I can't really go into great detail with shaders. But just realise that more is better.

The X1900XT actually only has 16 pipelines but has 3 processes per pipe giving the effective performance of 48 pixel processes.

The X1900XT is probally the best value card out at the moment bar the 7900GTO. :)

i wonder if there is a tool that will allow me to lock some of the shaders and do testing.

if i run 16 pipes and 2 shader per pipe giving 32 shaders total, it would be interesting to see how well the card performs. also running a 1:1 ratio of 16 pipes and 16 shaders would be a good test.

anyone if it can be done using software?

try rivatuner that lets you lock pipes
