I have an ancient gaming pc based around an i54670k
8gb ram
I semi upgraded my gpu to a 2060 and I have a trash psu

I want to start fresh and just reuse my case and have a budget of 1000 for the pc alone, what is my best possible way to get the most performance for my money as the market for components stands ? I know there is always something new around the corner and often get told to wait for z y z but I really want to get things ordered this week as I have put off building a pc for long enough.

Also is building still the best way to get the best value for money ? I saw something recently saying pre builds are similarly priced these days.

I included a case because I know it fits AIOs, but you can drop the case and get a half-decent air cooler, would be fine for cooling a 12400F.

I don't know how much storage you need, but could drop one of the drives.

The PSU is overkill for a 2060, but will provide plenty of breathing room if you upgrade to a high-end RTX 4000 in the future.

Lian-Li GALAHAD AIO 240mm High Performance RGB CPU Water Cooler - White - £99.95
Lian Li Lancool 205 Midi-Tower Case - White Window - £64.99
Phanteks AMP 850W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - £114.95

WD Blue SN570 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3B0C) - £74.99
WD Black SN770 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0E) - £89.99

Intel Core i5-12400F 2.50GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - Retail - £179.98
Intel Gamer Days Core i5 Bundle - Call of Duty Modern Warfare II - £0.00
MSI Pro B660M-A WIFI DDR4 - Intel B660 DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard - £149.99
Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £139.99

Grand Total: £928.03

Prices might drop by mid/end of Sept if AM5 launches on schedule.

You can get a 12400 (non-F) currently for the same price and I definitely would.

Excellent thanks for that !

Are the i5s a good option budget wise vs the ryzens ? I nearly pulled the trigger a year or 2 ago an every single build recommendation back then suggested Ryzen 5s of some sort for kid range builds

Your welcome.

Ryzen 5 5600 and intel 12400 compete very closely so its a coin flip but I personally would buy intel at this point as its the newer platform, but there's no bad choice.

If you decide AMD then get the 5600 not the 5500 while offering good performance is a cut down version and only supports pcie3.

AMD will be releasing there next gen cpu on September 27th but won't be cheap mite worth looking into.

Don't forget your old pc is worth s bit and so is the 2060 .

Aha, I see, I assumed you were going to keep it. Might be worth giving it a go if that is an option, since you might be surprised how much more performance the new system could pull out of it.

You can sell the 2060 to the 2nd hand chain for £145 cash. It outperforms the 3050 in raster performance and that card sells new for around £300, give or take £20 depending on model.
You could use the money that you can get from selling the 2060 for a 6800 instead of the 6750xt and another nvme drive

Are the XT cards currently the best price for performance cards ?

Here is a review of the 6750xt and a bar graph of value at MRSP. Obviously some prices now are better value than the graph eg 6800 at £500 now which IMO taking into account VAT in the Uk and pound v dollar makes it cheaper than 580 dollars, https://youtu.be/Lg-TcVrh8rA?t=628
The reference 6750xt is also cheaper than MRSP IMO

Best buy is hoping to snag a Nvidia 3060ti FE at MRSP
