I've heard and would like to know if true that say you got a USA PS3 then you can only play against other USA PS3 owners and no-one else, same with Jap PS3's can only play Jap PS3's and presume UK owners against UK owners.

So my question is are the games for multiplay region locked to the machine native country of origin?

Nope i have played plenty of Japanese folks on RR7.
Its so cross region it uses the autotext similar to FFXI. In that you can pick a phrase from a list, and it shows in whatever language you have set.
And i have El on my friends list (thought not played him yet) and he has a JAP PS3 and i have a US PS3.

What will possibly happen is what happened with SOCOM on the PS2 and PSP in that The major territories get there own host servers. In that setup the EU could only play the EU and US could only play the US. Though i wouldn't be surprised if that changes for the PS3. It all depends on how many man games you want i suppose.

but is that because RR7 isn't region locked for multiplayer so thus down to the developer, i heard that Resistance is?, this is comming from AV forums ps3 owners?

Well I have only played Tiger woods online (the game not the actual Tiger Woods!) and got mainly US competition on a Jap system.

Like i said above, on the PS2 it was down to the region where the host servers where, but cannot confirm or deny it is the same for the PS3.
Some would argue it is a bad thing as it means that people in the UK can't play people in the US.
But it will reduce lag (although it shouldn't be much, Live has some chronic lag on intercontinental games) and it also means you can have many many players on single online games. because of a central server, resistance can have 40 player online, when xbox live struggles even with 8 player games because it is P2P.
Horses for courses though, and each to their own. But probably for games which allow a lot of online players it will be region specific, and wouldn't surprise me, but for games that only use up to 8 players i doubt it will be. I would even be surprised if F1 requires a dedicated server as it will only have 12 Human racers online.

But to answer your original question, it isn't region locked by the machine.

And to answer the 2nd question, i could be region locked by the title, and it will depend on the Dev and all of the above.
