can somebody help please?

my mate recently bought the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail and the Abit KN9 nForce Ultra (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard. also a new PSU and an 80gb sATA HDD.
everything was installed correctly, but his system isn't booting up at all. the LED's are lighting up showing the MB is getting power, but still nothing happens.
hope someone can help as i can't think what may be wrong with it.

The first thing to check is that all the power plugs are firmly attached and all in that area is sorted. The second thing to look at is the memory. Try removing all but one module and test it in all available slots. Continue this process checking all modules in all slots.

Disconnect & reconnect everything.
Have a break walk away & come back & look at it in 15 mins.

Does he have another rig in which he can test the RAM? Does the PSU turn on when it's not plugged into a computer? Do test that, bridge the green wire to any black and plug it in.

ooops my bad, the system is booting up, its just not accessing the HDD i think
there is a beep as it starts to boot

Ok, will it boot a live CD or the Windows installation disk? That would say if it's a problem with the HDD or with booting in general.

he says he has tried entering boot menu to try booting from disc but there is no option for him to do so
