Something that I really do not understand and has been bugging me for ages is the manufacturers of GPU's.

So you get, for example, an MSI AMD Radeon HD 6950, so is it made by AMD, or MSI?

I just don't get it! :confused:
 
AMD make the GPU and design a reference PCB/cooler which MSI and the like sell with a different sticker on.

MSI and others may design their own PCB/cooler after a while but it still has an AMD GPU.
 
All the actual chips are made by AMD. But AMD also make the boards that the chip sits on then just send these out to companies like MSI who slap their sticker on it and sell it.

But sometimes AMD will just send out the chips and MSI will make it's own custom board and sell that for a bit more for example.

But the chips are always made by AMD.
