Down under mate!
Ok guys have just purchased one of these wireless linksys routers,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-006-LS&groupid=46&catid=116&subcat=

And I would like to connect my Virgin broadband to this router so my setup will be this

Cable Modem
Router
PC via (Cable connection to router)
PS3 wireless.

Can someone just talk me through the process of what i need to do ,I hear peeps talking about opening ports etc and sorting out security and it confuses me to hell!!

ok quickguide

1) turn your cable modem off. Leave it off for a few minutes

2) plug the "ethernet out" of your Cable Modem into the "WAN" port on the DSL/Cable Router using a straight through cable (available from all good PC stores and other places)

3)switch your modem on. Let it connect, then switch your Router on. Let that connect and find the signal

4) plug your Patch Lead into the router. Then. on your PC, click on start , select run and type in: cmd. In the black box that appears type ipconfig /release and then again type ipconfig /renew

this should connect you to your router via the wired connection. You should be able to do anything you need to do at this point

the next steps ar to enable the wireless connection. You then need to give the wirless connection an SSID, or a name that will identify it. Most routers have their make in here by default. Leave it like this, or just something randomly. Dont put your name/address or whatever in here

Next you need to give it a password. There are different types, all you need to worry about is using WPA-PSK and type in as long and as difficult a password as you can remember.

Enter these into the PS3 and away you go. IF you have troubles with the PS3, post in here. But i didnt need to set up any ports for PS3 on my router. Just give it an SSID (the connection name we entered earlier) and a password (the thing you entered in the WPA-PSK box)

then obviously just type these into the PS3

I personally removed all software firewalls after i got a decent router.

With regard to gaming, you shouldn't need to change a thing unless your HOSTING a game as you will need to allow traffic in on certain TCP ports.

Hope that helps,
