Can someone educate me on Gsync/Freesync?

Basically I have a Radeon 5700XT but am considering a change, potentially back to an Nvidia card for the first time in years.

My issue is (or could be) that my monitor is a Hannspree HG324, which I believe is a "Freesync" panel - my question is, how would this monitor interact with an Nvidia card? Would I still be able to benefit from either Gsync or Freesync in gaming?

You can use Adaptive (freesync) only. Gsync requires a physical component in the monitor.

So I'd be no worse off in terms of still benefiting from the Freesync even with an Nvidia card, but would need a Gsync compatible monitor to get the full benefits?

They is no real difference between freesync and G-SYNC technology. The main difference comes from the type of monitor you are using.

Some cheaper freesync monitors will have a small sync window.
