I'm trying to get my head around the idea of DFS in a NT 4.0 environment.

Am I right in thinking that it could be a directory that is spanned across serveral servers, but transparently (so you don't know what server certain files might be on.?)

I didn't think DFS (distributed file system) was part of NT? I've only used it on 2003 Server.

Basically you setup a DFS root that contains the files you want replicated to other servers, then setup DFS targets on the target servers. Setup a replication schedule (what times and days the replication can run) and away it goes.

Think of it as a shared folder containing (pulling together in the virtual sense) many other shared folders from various machines.

Yes most of the time you don't know which servers the files are on.

I haven't used it in replication style so I can't comment.
