Can someone explain the differences of these to me?

So, I'm looking for the cheapest motherboard I can buy which sill support both sandybridge and ivybridge CPUs. I don't need anything special like caching abilities and I won't be RAIDing. I don't even need SLI.

So can someone explain to me which are the best options for me, and why?
Are any of these chipsets obsolete?

It looks like I have a choice of these 6:

B75 Q75 Q77 H77 Z75 Z77

and from what wikipedia tells me, it looks like I would be fine with the cheapest motherboard as long as it's one of those chipsets. Considering my above requirements, is this true?

Thanks

An i5-2500K sounds like a good choice and you are correct that hyperthreading isn't utilized by games. Many benchmarks actually show the i5 performs better in games than the i7.

As you're getting a processor that can be overclocked you'll want to go for a Z68 or Z77 (the successor to Z68) motherboard. These will allow you to both overclock and use the integrated GPU.

Remember obviously that even though many Z68 boards will support Ivy Bridge processors with a BIOS flash you won't be able to make full use of the features it supports on the older Z68 boards. If buying now, I would go this board as a budget option.

Here's a review

UK based warranty, UEFI BIOS, fairly decent overclocking performance (in the review by hexus they had an i7 2600K happily at 4.6GHz.

Do you think the price of that board will drop between now and 2 months from now?

Also, this board would support the Ivy Bridge equivalent, correct?

Also, thank you very much :)

Best thing to do is post a thread with your budget just before you're ready to buy. Prices vary and change so often so what's good today may kit seem as good then. As for a price drop, doubt it. Might appear in offer from time to time though.
