Right, I'm just a little curious (i don't know that much about the inner workings of a cpu, although i consider myself fairly competent with the general idea and the idea of FSB and all that stuff)

i got me a sempy 3000+ socket 754 on a asus k8n4-e deluxe (1.8ghz stock)

and for someone reason

9x286 overclock = not stable
8x325 overclock = stable

both result in 2.6ghz

just, it doesnt make much sense to me - its stable with a higher FSB but the same clock speed.. ? the only thing i can think is it would be maybe its not quite getting enough vCore or something

isn't at all a problem just curious, would like to keep the multi on 9x so when I vChipset mod my nforce 4 i can push it further (higher multi obviously means i can keep FSB lower, which i would have thought would result in higher stable overclock) as i said just curious how this works - ideally i want 9x multi because my ram is also coming very close to its top limit (its set at 100mzh in bios which is as low as i can put it, no divider options) but with higher fsb it gets pushed up, i think its around 160-170mhz atm, but if there's a lot more headroom in this cpu i don't want to be limited by ram (this stuff wont go much over 200mhz, its generic crappy pc3200)

anyway, hope i made sense!

Regards

Alec

default FSB of 200mhz

anyway, turns out after a fair bit of stress testing 8x 325 isnt actualy stable - my bad - although it is slightly "more" stable than 9x 278 or whatever i use

lol cheers for the replys anyway lads lol

just waiting to vChipset and vCore mod my motherboard now and push this chip futher - after looking around i have the golden stepping for this sempy (same stepping as currect WR) WR sits at 3300mhz currently, would be nice if i could get somewhere near that - but even with some mods to the board i cant really see it happening :( essential the motherboard just isnt good enough

cheers
