Can someone give me a quick run through of how to share a printer?

Hey all

I'm on my PC in my room at the moment, and the printer is downstairs on the family PC. Both computers are connected to the net via a router.

I'm just wondering how i would be able to print stuff off through that printer downstairs?

I've run the network wizzard and allowed file and print sharing... but i'm clueless as what to do next.

Start>(Control Panel)>Printers

Right click on the printer you want ot share

then click sharing... Click on Share this printer, and set the rest up how you want too :)

control panel - printers - add a printer

make sure you select network printer, not local, and presuming the network is setup correctly it should find the printer and install the drivers for you.
 
Well i went onto the downstairs computer which has the printer connected, and enabled print sharing on its options.

I came up to my pc, and added a network printer... But it doesnt find anything :(

Check both computers are in the same workgroup. Its in system properties in control panel.
 
just do this..


right click printer
sharing, click enable.


now go into System Properties (winkey + break/pause)
computername

make a note of the 'computername'


go to the other pc, click start, run

type..

\\computername
^name of the pc

then right click the printer, connect.

no need to run wizards etc if you're using a router..




if you want to share a folder..

rght click, folder, sharing (choose whether or not you want them to be able to modify..)

call it 'share' or 'pics' or whatever..

go to the other pc, in explorer, click Tools, Map Network drive

enter.

\\computername\sharename

choose a drive letter, and voila! mapped to that pc :)
 
I've assigned both the PCs to the same workgroup. I've enabled the printer to share. The thing is.. i dont think the PC's are recognising each other. I cant view the shared folder on the other pc
