Hi guys

Just looking for some help setting up WOL on my network. I have a billion 7800n router and i have added my desktop machine and media machine mac addresses to the WOL list and both have there network cards WOL enabled. I can wake up either machine no problem from within my LAN by going into my router and simply clicking on the WOL option and selecting which machine i require.

What i would really like to do is be able to WOL from outside my LAN. Im not to sure how to go about doing it so would be really gratefull if someone could lend me a hand. I use Remote Desktop to get into machines round my LAN and normally use Teamviewer for external access but Teamviewer doesnt seem to support a WOL feature which is a pain :o

Cheers guys

The best way would be make your router config page available from the internet, there is probably an option for this buried somewhere. You should also look into using DDNS so that if your external IP changes you can still connect.

Obviously make sure you set a strong password for your router, and even change the username if it gives you that option.

Thanks for the responce guys, i'll see if i can change the default username on the router i have already changed the password.

I have an iphone bledd not an android im afraid, all the machines on my network have a static local address like you mention. Is it fairly safe accessing your home router over the wan to gain access to the WOL feature?

Thanks again guys much appreciated

Sign up to Logmein.com for a free account and install the agent on the machines you want to WOL.
You can WOL from there providing atleast 1 other machine on your network is powered up or if some routers store the info.

Been using it for the past year, along with the RA, it's awesome.

I have managed to set this up right i think by adding all the info in manually so wol should work ok via my LAN

How do i go about setting up wol over the wan?

Internal IP address needs to be the IP of your computer you wish to wake.

-edit, just remembered, the 7800N uses .254 as it's address, I assume 1.1 is your computer :)

If you've saved the config, then that should be all you need to do.

Test waking from sleep mode first with it.

Thats right bledd my machine is 1.1 and the billion is .254 :)

It seemed to work fine so happy with that, if i wanted to wake this machine though externally from this iphone app would i have to just enter my external wan ip instead and would it be safe to do that?
