I havent much experience of overclocking with a a64 so am hoping someone on this forum could help me here.

My gear is - Dual core A64 3800+ using a freezer 64 cooler.

G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS) CAS Latency : 2-3-2-5

Asrock dual sata 2 motherboard (bios 1.60)

I would like to overclock it to 4400 speeds, so 2.2ghz can someone tell me how to do this please? I'm not sure about htt and things. Would I be able to get this speed on the default voltage?

Temps at the mo are 40c full and case is 33c

Any help welcome. :)

Ok I'm sorry my brain isnt working today, I never noticed the overclocking guide on this page. I'll have a good read and see if I can start overcloking my x2 3800. :)

2.2ghz should be easy to get to. I have the same cpu and mobo and got mine to 2.5ghz on default volts with the stock cooler.

First set the ram to run at a 133mhz divider. Then set the overclock mode to cpu, pci-e, Async. Just increase the cpu frequency to 220 for 2.2ghz. Go into the chipset options and set the cpu NB link speed to 800mhz if the freq is under 250 and set it to 600mhz if it's over 250.
Keep increasing the the frequency until it's unstable.
When the system is unstable increase the volts. The max volts on this board without the mod is 1.4V which is safe.
Check the temp and try not to let it get higher than 55c.

Just posted before I saw your reply, thanks very much for the info mate. I'll try it and see how it goes, big big thanks. :)

I have applyed the settings you told me Lee87, and I now have a nice little overclock with no extra heat or very little.. check it out...

Delighted, thanks mate. :D

I'm now running at 4200/4400+ speeds now right?

Havent treid any more overclocks just yet as I had to do a reformat of windows. I will though in the future, maybe try for 2.4.. that would be very nice. :)

Excellent thanks,

Seems very stable @ 2.2 as I would have thought it would be. Gonna try for 2.5 that would be amazing, I just need to change the cpu frequency and nothing else right?

Can anyone tell me the best way to test for stability? should I run memtest before attempting to boot into windows? or risk a boot?

Ok this is very strange.. I treid to get it to 2.5ghz at stock voltage, but it wasnt booting into windows. I did this by chnging the mutiplyer to 2.5 and also changed the cpu nb link speed to 600mhz, but no windows.

I then changed the voltage to 1.4v it booted into windows but was unstable and crashed and failed super pi and prime 95.

I have now put it back to 2.2ghz and nb link speed back to 800mhz and voltage back to defualt? can anyone tell me what the default voltage is for a x2 3800+ please?

Anyway it was back to normal and booted in to windows fine but... when I opened my computer it took ages to find my drives, I just got the hourglass icon for ages, now it seems back though, but it was scary.

So does this mean I cant get 2.5ghz?

Sorry yes I meant the cpu freq HTT. I left the ram was still on 133, and the heat was only @ about 40c. Oh well, maybes I can get 2.4?

Cheers mate, my board though only goes to 1.4, there might be a modded bios somewhere though.
