Morning all

I have been considering upgrading my system sometime this year as its starting to age a little all be it its working like a charm but looking to be future proof really. My current setup is in my sig, i must admit my Phenom chip has never missed a beat since the day i got it but i have been looking around the OCUK site and i cant help but think AMD dont seem to have a great range of boards these days so i am really tempted to go for an intel chip which i have never had before so i wouldn't know where to start if im honest.

If i do decide to go the intel route it would be a new board and ram as i still currently use DDR2 with my am2+ board. I guess id be looking to sell most of my parts off either on the bay or here in the MM apart from my 5850 which i love to bits :)

If anyone could lend me some advice id be so grateful, i dont really have a budget in mind to be honest, i mainly use my machine for playing games like BFBC2 GTA etc

Thanks so much

Relatively straight forward :

- CPU - 2500K retail - £170.
- Motherboard - Z68 / P67 - £100 -> £150 (Z68 Gen3 for PCIE + Ivybridge support).
- Memory - 4GB / 8GB PC12800C9 DDR3 - £30 / £50.
- Sell the rest (mobo + CPU + memory) for £100+(?).

All depends on budget. 8GB not really required, better spend the money towards a better mobo if it comes to choosing between the two.

Then it's a matter of budget. You have a good case, PSU and cooler. As long as the cooler has 1156 fittings, should fit on 1155.

Can also hang tight for IvyBridge / Bulldozer if your system still does the job (regardless of age).

I know we cant mention competitors but aren't those prices for the i5 2500k a bit steep?
Fair enough this forum has a shop connected to it, but don't you also have a commitment to unbiased fair advice to people who don't know better?
(ready to get flamed)

Once i can afford it i think this is what i am going to go for

Just a couple of things if anyone wouldn't mind giving me some advice on. I currently have a megahalems cooler on my 955 using the amd kit i think it might be the 1st gen one that came out, when i bought it it only came with the 775/1366 brackets is there anyway i could get hold of the 1155 brackets that seem to come with the cooler these days as long as they will fit the 1st gen cooler? dont fancy paying out another £45 for a cooler i already have.

I am also considering chopping my 5850 in and trying crossfire but if i do so im not to sure what ati cards to go for and if it would even be worth it gaming at my rez of 1600x900 what do you think?

Not sure where you might find such in the UK- google may be your friend.

Xfire - I would get your new kit up and running (incl overclocking the cpu) to see how things run - at your res. might not be needed. You can always swap later although personally I would be more inclined to spend the money on a ssd.
