Can someone look at there SanDisk Extreme SDHC card for me please.

Hi.
Just bought 2 new, sealed Sandisc Extreme class 10 SDHC 8GB memory cards for my camera.

I just want to see if there genuine as something bugging me.

I bought one, brand new in April 2012, exactly the same, on the back of the card it has 2 little rows of gold dots.

The 2 (in full retail packaging, sealed and same capacity) 8GB I have just purchased from a on-line retailer do NOT have these double row of dots.

Maybe Sandisk have stopped putting the dots (whatever they are for) on. packaging looks perfectly the same as the other 1. Was sealed etc and cards work fine. Just wanted to see if you had the dots on the back

The only difference I can see on the packaging is on the back, bottom left copyright on the card I bought in April states 2010 and the x2 I have just purchased says 2012.



Thank you. Maybe I am worrying over nothing. Just seems a huge amount of fakes out there.


PS: on another note. I popped into Jessops today and there selling the 8GB card as above for £39.99

Thought that was very OTT.

I paid £8.99 each for the x2 above.

Yes seen that. Although mine were not from that 'company'. Seems to be a lot about.

Just curious about the 'lack' of gold dots on the back. whatever there for.

I've got 2x20MB/s and 1x30MB/s cards and both have the gold dots along with serial numbers/SanDisk logo/"Made In China" on the back, but were purchased 18 months ago.

If it's any help, I have a 32GB version (bought this year, but couldn't tell you when it was manufactured) where the dots are visible through the case. Perhaps they made a batch with a less translucent plastic at some point…

Maybe a better way to tell a fake apart would be to compare for slight variations in the shape, or the print quality on the label. Since you have the card though, test it for actual transfer speeds. I'd imagine a knock-off would likely be a slower card repackaged.
