Hiya this is my first overclocking project,
I have an asus m3a motherboard, 3gb corsair memmory an amd 5000+ BE cpu 500gb hdd and a coolermaster hsf.
For the past 3 days i have had a stable overclock from 2.6ghz to 3.0ghz (it survived 3 hours of prime95 without errors) to achieve this i increased the multiplier to 15 and upped the vcore from 1.3 to 1.5. i used amd overdrive to do a benchmark and it scored 5337 (average of 3 tests) i done all overclocking via the bios.
last night disaster struck and windows completly crashed about 10 secs after loading to desktop (vista 64 home premium) i could not do anything even after leaving it alone for about 2 hours to see if it would recover itself but with no joy so i had to do a complete reinstall of windows including deleting the origional partician (which worked!) after reinstalling all my oc apllications i tried another stress test on prime95v (passed!) the funny thing is my vcore had been reset to 1.35 and i could not pass even 10 mins on prime with my cpu @3.0 without raising that vcore to 1.5 before?? also my benchmark has dropped to 5086 i have noticed the lower score is comming from the memmory so could this be because i have increased the cpu but not the memmory? does the memmory frequency become unbalanced with that of the cpu? i want to move to an i7 cpu soon this was really a test setup to see if i could overclock without causing any damage to hardware!
as always any help or constructive critisism welcome
Thanks.

I'm quoting myself from a different thread as it may apply to your problem too:

Try lowering the memory frequency via the ram divider some more and see if you can get your system stable. I have to run my memory 200Mhz below default to keep my system stable. If necessary you could also try slackening the memory timings.

Once you get the sytem stable again - you can work at trying to bring your memory back up to speed.

I prefer losing a bit of memory speed and having a large overclock - i feel the gains are better.

that si strange i have the same cpu on a asus m2n-sli and it overlcocked to 3.2 on multi with 1.35 vcore as it wont let me go up anymore then tht
hat temps are you reading under load

hiya thanks for the advice so far,
my idle temp is around 35-42c and under load im usually around 55c (higher than i would like i would prefer to be under 50)

that is ntohign rly m8 i have had mine wen i didnt have any fans as they all broke (never figured out why) at around 70 under load no issues at all wat case are you using to be curious as you should be able to even clock higher then that no issues unless mobo or somethign is overheating
i have had that before it scary then your mobo dies

i have no idea on the case name its a full media size atx i brought quite cheap (£60) it has a front closing door with a neon blue dragon that lights up on the front if that helps! i know i should be able to clock higher but last time i tried 3.1ghz i got the dreaded blue screen of death this was before the reinstall of windows though which seems to have sorted loads of issues!

60 pounds aint that cheap of a case and doe sit hasve a possitive air flow and what gpu are you using and not being mean but have you seated everything correctly used all the screws to connect your mobo to the case and everything cus mine runs 3.1-3.2 without uping voltage at all

yeah checked everything was seated correctly today (it honestly didnt occur to me before but i thought i must be missing something as reviews also suggest 3.2ghz by simply upping the multiplier, i have just orderd more fans as i only have an intake and exhaust so ive brouth a 90mm for front intake, additional 120mm for rear exhaust and 80mm for top exhaust. my gpu is nvidia 8500gt made by inno 3d (about £50 from ****** when i brought it) but does gpu effect cpu overclock??

Btw i have a 5000+ BE cpu mine runs happily at 3.3, 3.4 would run but way to many system errors. Even had it to 3.5 but that was a waste of time tbh.

I leave it at 3.2 and your right no voltage changes need to be made to get it to 3.2 over that you have to set the volts.

Theres a few reviews around for this chip

gpus can effect overclock as they can pump out a lot of heat like my 260 gtx pumps out more heat into my case then his 8500gt so it could cause things like mbob to overheat easier and therefore stop so much over clocking on it.

so do you think i should try pumping back up to 3.1ghz seeing as before i got the dreaded blue screen my system has been working so much better after my fresh windows install? but could that be all my old problem was or must there be something else?

dnt put it up there strigth away
to start with up it to 2.9 leave it for a day ro two then to 3.0 as my m8 has one and his will only go to 3.0 on 1.35 and if copes with that fine you can either go up a bti more on multi or go up thorugh fsb a little bit at a time
