i want to game at 1920x1080 but will go higher if it can
i would like it to be full HD and to have a great picture when gaming, im also going to have a gtx 480 to put the power on to it

£200 is my budget for a monitor

cheers guys

beasty

In a similair position myself atm and our resident "monitor guru" PCM2 very kindly pointed mr in the direction of a Sammy B2430H or a P2450H

I've had a P2450 since Dec 09 and can recomend it, the only annoyance is the touch sensitive buttons when changing inputs. Flicking from the PC to Xbox and vice versa sometimes requires an extra press or two. Would really prefer some actual buttons instead. Apart from that I can recomend and will probably get myself a second one day.

thats just over my budget :(

£200 it literately my budget i cant go over at all lol

as £200 is my budget will the samsung P2450H be the best choice ??

Oh ok. Well i can't comment as i have never used one but it does get a lot of reviews and gets recommended quite a lot on here.

I guarantee you that you will be happy with what ever you get seen as you don't currently game on a 1920 x 1080 monitor! :D

Should we aim for LED LCDs now? Or stick with the old stuff?

E.g. Samsung 24" BX2450 LED Monitor (5000000:1,2ms,VGA,HDMI*2,FullHD)

Samsung P2450H, I bought mine a few weeks ago, I used to use an old 19 inch monitor with a very low resolution. People kept telling me it's almost pointless getting a gaming machine while using a 19 inch monitor, so I took the dive and got one and let me tell you..gaming at 1080p is awesome as hell! The difference is HUGE, so glad I upgraded.

And the Samsung P2450H is perfect for gaming and watching blue ray/HD films. It has a HDMI input too so that's really handy, you can buy a HDMI splitter too for £20 I think so you can connect up to 4 HDMI devices to the monitor.

Video, games and pictures are crystal clear and have a vibrant feel. I recommend getting it :).

Looking at getting two P2450H displays to replace my existing extremely budget 24" monitor.

I've read plenty user opinions that this is a great monitor. And I don't doubt that, however many of the 'professional' reviews I've read seem to rate the monitor as average. So I started wondering why there was this difference of opinion. Perhaps the monitor was priced higher when released and so wasn't good value?

I'm more than likely going to opt for the P2450H anyway, but was just curious if there was any particular issue with monitor that most people were happy to overlook.

Without reading the review/s you speak of it's difficult to say. I have no issues or compromise with my P2470 (It's the same monitor but includes a freeview tuner). Can you provide a link to any of those reviews, please?

He could be referring to the Digital Versus review. I don't want to criticise them openly in this thread, suffice to say that their testing methodology is a little questionable and simplistic. With a little tweaking the P2450H is well above average for a monitor of its panel type. If you throw more expensive monitors into the mix then the P2450H is pretty 'average' really but the price reflects that. With reference to a far more complete review from Prad.de:

"The Samsung P2450H is not necessarily the perfect gamer monitor, but it demonstrates a well-balanced good to very good performance."

and

"Those who are not irritated by the disadvantages of the glossy design and transparent frame will find the Samsung P2450H to offer sophisticated technology with an excellent price-performance ratio."

This largely reflects my own testing of the P2450H. The take-home message = good monitor for the price if you like the aesthetics.
