Well, I'm in the market for a decent bridge camera. Im still not too keen on stepping up and getting a full dSLR as i know it will end up being a money pit with lenses etc.

I bought a Canon G11 ages ago and upgraded to a G16 at the end of 2013. Anyhoo, my G16 sadly took a swim one day when i fell in a river and never worked again. So my replacement that was also meant to be an upgrade was a Nikon Coolpix P610. I have been pretty disappointed with this so far and the superzoom part of it makes me feel thats its a one trick pony. The zoom is great but of course my poor research meant that the camera sensor size is actually smaller than the G16.
The Sony RX100 seems like a decent upgrade and is within my price range. I noticed that there is a dedicated thread for that camera on here. Is there anything else i should be looking at also?

RX100 is not a bridge - the RX10 is (albeit with a lower zoom/big sensor combo like the Panasonic FZ1000).

I recently went through a similar dilemma and my process led me to choosing the Panny FZ300 which I also took on holiday.

I can share with you the links I used to investigate as well as some photos (but only once I get round to uploading them which may take a week or so). Lmk.

Thanks for correcting me.

Actually the RX10mk3 does look like a very nice camera. It still has a decent built in zoom which i like on my current P610. Might have a look and see if there are any discounts online for one.

You won't get any discount on an RX10 III because there's no stock to be had.
The first batch sold out very quickly but there's no sign of any more turning up yet. This is allegedly due to the earthquake in Japan that damaged Sony's main sensor factory. It is an excellent camera but just a PITA there are none to be had.

If you were in the UK I'd offer you my old original model but shipping to Oz might be a bit much.

Thanks for the offer, but yeah, it will cost way to much to post securely to Oz.

So after finding that there are bugger all RX10 mk3s around i have started looking at the Panasonic FZ1000 which is significantly cheaper but has similar features (though missing the superzoom). 16x zoom is still pretty respectable. The FZ1000 is a few years old already, is there likely to be an update this camera in the next few months? I don't want to buy it to find that the new improved model comes out weeks later.

Photokina is next month so any major releases will probably be just before that. Of course, 'release' is far from the same thing as 'availability' as Nikon so ably demonstrated earlier this year with the DL range.

The FZ1000 seems to be a very capable camera and is much better value than the RX10s.
