Admins : Feel free to move this thread, wasn't sure where to post it.

I am after an always on NAS for home and am a bit lost and need some personal recommendations from those that have one.

Here are my requirements

Under £400 with disks included
4TB or over across 2 or more disks (room for 4 disks would be nice)
RAID 0/1 support
100GB ethernet min
DLNA
Media Centre
USB Printer Server
Easy (ish) interface - I am not shy and happy to get stuck in.

That is about it really, not too much to ask

So do you have any recommendations of units you have personally used and recommend ?

Thanks

HP Microserver.

I think that's about your only option (could use Synology's DSM which will give you a better/easier UI than FreeNas/Nas4Free) considering half your budget will go on disks.

Personally i'd opt for Synology or QNap box but you're looking at around £260/280 for either a DS413J or TS-412 and that's diskless.

Nah

HP microserver.

:D

If your gonna do it do it proper - I'm a big fan of the Synology and QNap NAS myself but the HP Microserver is potentially a good shout to.

I wasted a lot of time and effort and money trying to do it cheaply and just wish I'd spent out on the QNap I have now in the first place.

If you want to purchase, configure and forget, go QNAP/Synology. I have my own QNAP and install them regularly in small businesses that don't require full blown servers. Very reliable.

I've been putting in WD Red drives which are designed for NAS use. Also very reliable.

If you like the idea of building your own and choosing the OS etc, go HP Microserver. However, not sure you can you get the Microservers on cashback now? Thought the deals had ended.
