Can someone recommend something to extend the signal from the primary router?

I need an access point / wireless repeater.
Can someone recommend something to extend the signal from the primary router?

if you want to extend your network over wifi - instead of connecting the access point via a ethernet cable to the primary router - then the cheapest method would be to get a DDWRT enabled router. You can pick up a DIR 615D for around a tenner off Ebay - configure the ddwrt rouuter as wireless repeater mode.

They work much better when you connect them up via ethernet.

IE, your router > ethernet to access point

True but not in this case, once the dd-wrt router has logged onto the host wlan and began repeating it's signal the dhcp address will show in the upper right hand corner as the WAN address.

I've tried turning off security for both routers and it's still not connecting. I have a virtual SSID ready but it doesn't connect to the primary router, I can't even ping it. Anyone successfully done this?

I've made some progress. I can get Client mode to extend my primary wireless routers signal but this means using a cable between computer and secondary router.

I just need to get the virtual AP to work! It just gets no WAN connection from the primary router?

I don't get it, this should be the easy part, my secondary ddwrt router has the internet connection it just needs to send it out on it's virtual ap but it won't!

can someone please advise?
