Hi Guys,

ive spent so much money on hardware its unreal, yet i have spent no money on a decent desk or chair.

basically i have a all this amazing equipment but the worst chair ever, its basically a rigid kitchen chair and im getting pains at the top of my spine from hunching over my keyboard.

Looking around i cant find anywhere that has a chair that takes my fancy, ideally i want one that provides back support when gaming but also if i watch i DVD i can re-cline in uber comfort and fall alseep... i cant find anything, only either gaming chairs that arent really for general computing or general computing chairs that arent designed for chilling.

if you know of a decent desk then feel free to post it too, but my spine really needs a comfortable chair soon before i end up walking around in the shape of a coat hanger.

any ideas?

muchos gratias.

staples seem to hqve a good selection of computer chairs, thinking about getting one myself.

if theres a store near you probably best to go in and try some out and find one that feels good.

id defiantely recommend 'try before you buy' with something like a chair. youre going to be spending a lot of time on it, dont want to end up with an uncomfortable one

I bought myself a Galant desk from Ikea.

Unlike a lot of their stuff, it is quite sturdy :) You can choose from a variety of desktops ( sizes and materials/finishes ) and the legs are telescopic allowing you to have it at different heights quite easily. I even had it slightly sloped towards me for a bit which was cool! You just have to hold on to you mouse because sometimes it slides down :( hehe

I got a 120cmx80cm Birch coloured desktop :) plenty of room

As for chairs, Im still using some cheapo thing from Argos but Im thinking of getting one of the chairs like they have in my office. Bit expensive at £200-300 ish but theyre nice and have lots of knobs and things:P they even come with their own little instruction manual :)

You just have to find somewhere that sells them! Luckily one of our clients sells them :)

I spent an age trying to find a good pc chair ,they don't seem to exist imo .

paid about £200 from the above mentioned its not bad but your backside goes numb after a while as the leather and padding is not as thick as it looks ,the arms are very thin too.

I used to work from home, so was spending 8-12h working at the PC and then more hours gaming. I used to have an Ikea office chair but it gave up the ghost after a few years and I replaced it with a £100ish Office World chair which gave me terrible back problems within weeks!

Googling, I found many great reviews of Herman Miller chairs and found the following company who sell the FastAeron for £700ish, IIRC...

Yes, it's a lot of money but it is the most comfortable "office" chair I've ever used and is very adjustable.

But, I didn't just fork out... they offer a home trial, so I tried one out for 10 days or so and, convinced, splashed the cash.

I've no connection with the above company but they did give amazingly good service and I'm 100% happy with the chair which I've now had for 3y or more. And, since getting it, two mates have tried it out and both purchased them, too!

Again, before any comments, yes, it's a shed-load for a chair but you do use it as much as your home PC and monitor, so it's worth investing in :)

oooooooooh yeahhhhhhhhh!

was cheap and looks gooooooood! nice to sit at but like a lot of leather chairs the padding ain't exactly exceptional..though for 50 squids it's rather comfy i must say!

Whoa, I just bought one of those this afternoon after my old chair broke. I reckon it's good value for money and it is comfey to sit on. Doesn't creak/squeak either (my old one was driving me crazy)

I had a herman miller Mirra chair in an office I used to work in - most comfortable chair I've ever used! But they weigh in at around 380 quid. Might invest in one some day...

At work you could always tell those who ate lunch sat at the keyboard - the chairs all had a V-shape dirty area at the front of the seat caused by bits of sandwich etc., being dropped :)
