My broadband will be switching to Infinity 2 tomorrow. I have purchased Netgear D7000 to get the most out of the broadband. Now, while it is a very good router, there are still areas in the house that have a poor wifi reception as there are just too many walls.

Currently I have a netgear wifi extender which helps but it is still unreliable at times.

I was looking at the settings in the netgear router and it says that i can connect another router via ethernet. So my question is, will this be the most reliable way to get very quick internet at the other side of the house.

So the setup I am thinking of:

Netgear D7000>>>>Ethernet cable(20-25 meters)>>>>Home Hub 5>>>Wifi devices.

Will this be a more reliable option than having

Netgear>>>>Wifi extender>>>Wifi devices?

Many thanks

Netgear >> ethernet cable(s) >> wirless access point(s) >> wifi devices.

Don't use more than one router.

Edit the DHCP range.

Say your router has the IP 192.168.1.1 the default range is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255. Change it to 1.10 to 192.168.1.255, give the access point the IP of 192.168.1.2, set the DNS and gateway as 192.168.1.1 on the access point.

You can if you configure everything before you disable DHCP on the second router so it acts like a wired/wireless switch (I have an identical configuration since I didn't want to alter the security settings on the main router (one device didn't support the higher security settings) but that was with a router and not a modem/router) but I wouldn't suggest using a HH5 as a second and instead get a wireless router that can be changed to act as a wired/wireless switch to provide a wireless signal where you can't get it.
