can someone with relatively recent AMD card connected to TV test something for me?

I use a TV for my main display on my PC. Pretty good screen overall for photo editing and gaming.

Anyway, one feature I really like that I get from my 980ti, is that I can have different settings for gaming/desktop and have it set to auto detect type o finput, and the 980ti will send signal to TV for current use, so automatically swaps between game settings or desktop settings.

Given that there is no really quick way of doing this on the Sony, it's nice to have.

I'd like to know if AMD cards can do the same.

It may not seem like much, but I don't really want to lose this feature, so despite wanting to go all AMD, may stick with nvidia.

I'd be grateful for anyone to test this.

I have never seen any setting like this in the AMD settings.
By the way could you tell me how to set this with nvidia card my friend was asking about this.

Yes, that is correct.

The TV has picture settings for "game", "graphics", "movie". It has an "auto switch picture mode" setting, that will change between those settings if it receives the correct signals.

My GTX 980ti will send these signals. So, on desktop, I will set it to "graphics" mode, then enable the auto.

When I launch a game, the gpu sends signal that it is now gaming, and TV switches to "game" mode. There is even a specific setting for this in Nvidia control panel.

I'd like to know if AMD GPU's will so the same. I am guessing, probably, yes. It would just be nice if someone could test it.

TV in question is Sony 43XD80, which is android based. I can't speak to other TV's doing the same, but guessing they will probably all do similar.

It's in Nvidia control panel, under the "adjust desktop colour settings".

The bottom setting is "content type reported to the display".

It should be auto by default, which should do the switching.

Thanks for info I passed it on to my friend.

I just checked my amd control panel couldn't see anything to change tv settings.

Really hoping someone chimes in that this is possible.

One plus side I guess is I could stop waiting for Vega.

I do really like this option that much.

Its not enough for some random AMD user to say that its not there. You/we need to find out what this feature is called within your tv to allow it to switch profiles like that and then you need someone with a tv with the same feature to test it out using AMD hardware. I could try it on my tv as i have an Rx 480 but my tv is so old it wouldnt have any such feature or handshaking ability to begin with which would lead to no options for this being showed in the control panel IF my card actually supported such.

EDIT: Okay so fare i think ive found out what this feature is called and that is ITC (content type (ITC) reported to the display) - nvidia. This feature i know is in AMD drivers. Its under Radeon additional settings. But if it works the exact same way is a whole other thing i dont know anything about. Worth googling though.

Copied from ATI,

Enabling ITC Processing for DTVs
ITC processing is a feature that enables display processors to use the appropriate pixel data processing algorithms based on specific content type to ensure video quality.

With ITC processing, the graphics driver enables the display to use its own video quality processing algorithms for movies played in full-screen mode on HDMI™ displays.

Note: This feature is available only for DTVs connected with HDMI cables and may not be available for all systems.
From the Graphics Settings tree, expand DTV.
Click Attributes.
Select or clear Enable ITC Processing as appropriate.
Select—Enables ITC processing for HDMI displays that are capable of the feature. When movies are played in full-screen mode, the display’s processors can be used to ensure video quality.
Clear—Disables ITC processing. Video quality is ensured by the graphics driver for all types of contents displayed.

Thanks maonaze and phixsator.

So there ability is there in some form.

But not clear from all of that whether it's as flexible as nvidia implementation. Mentions video, but not gaming?

Google can assist a bit now that I know the setting to search on.

I have an issue when switching from desktop to game my tv loses signal from my home cinema and I have to reselect the channel. Hopefully unticking this itc processing will fix it thanks for info.

I have tested with both itc on and off today and couldn't get it to detect content type.
Mt tv is a Panasonic plasma st50 and I have hdmi content detection swiched to auto.

Could be my tv or amd card not doing it properly not sure but just letting you know I couldn't get it to work.
