Hi I have a blue ray and HD DVD combo drive so i can watch movies on my PC. I all so have the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 Sound Card .

Am I able to get the full benefits of HD sound ?? I have it connected to my AMP via coaxial.

I have no idea as thought I would need a sound card with HDMI ?

Any help is appreciated !

AFAIK the auzentech will only handle DD/DTS and 2CH PCM over the optical/coaxal cable. I haven't heard the new formats myself, but from what I gain from AV forums, you will need a very very high end setup to notice any difference between them and the DD/DTS etc.

Cheers

do the Auzentech cards have all the usual X-Fi features and eax goodness?
Yeah. EAX5.0, plus Dolby Digital Live was released for it last month. DTS and DTS NEO is due sometime in Q1.

Fantastic - unfortunately this just opens the door to a complete upgrade of my sound setup - Onkyo 605 amp and a small sub being the most necessary bits, not gonna be cheap, lucky I'm starting my first proper job soon...

I have the 605 paired with my auzentech meridian and have (at the moment) 4 Q Acoustics 1020's in the surround setup - well worth a look in for you when it comes to buying speakers. Have you decided on them yet? Good list of components so far.
