Hi all,

Following on from my last question about the PS3 playing large size media files...

...Can the PS3's internal HDD be upgraded for a larger size one?

Thanks

Yes and its very very simple to do

You need a Laptop SATA HDD 5400RPM, a small phillips screwdriver and a steady hand :)

I think it even explains how to fit it in the PS3 manual, and it doesn't void the warranty.

Check the sticky at the top of the forum as I think msmalls has a guide in there.

Good luck!

Edit: I believe this is the drive I used when I did mine last year.

yeh. i noticed a sticky label on the bottom of my ps3 instructing me that this is where you can remove the internal HDD. although i dont need to, yet. will the new 500gb 2.5" work with ps3? i think its out!?

two ps3's here, 2 upgraded HD's, 120g 5400 in both... Absolutely no difference between the originals, except for the extra hd space. Can't even remember the brands, I think Samsung and Tosh....

You can always use a 3.5" HDD as your main PS3 drive too. It means you need an external HDD caddie with eSata to house it. But if you can find one in shiny black and chrome then it should sit nicely next to your PS3. I think james.miller has done this with his!
