Can this be done? (Security Light / PIR question)

Hello,

We live in a 1930s semi. At the moment, I've got a security light with a PIR, fed directly from the consumer unit at the front of the house.

At the rear, I've got a security light with a PIR, fed from the lighting circuit in the extension. This light is switched.

The above might not be relevant!

I'd like to fit three PIRs, one on each side of the house, with a series of lights covering the garden, side shared driveway, and front driveway too, with each of the PIRs triggering the lights.

Should I look to split it up into three different installations? Or just wire them all together (a sparky will do the work).

I'd like to be able to override and turn the lights on, for example when we're using the garden, and for security at the front overnight.

I've got CCTV and to be honest, the ambient light is not good enough when it gets dark.

I appreciate that's a very broad, non-specific overview - but any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

You can do it either way 3 PIRs all working together so any 1 turns all lights on or use 1 PIR per light just setting that light off.

1 PIR per light is simpler to install and later fault find in future.

you can use a fitting with built in PIR or separate fitting and PIR - can can also use some built in PIRs to run slave fittings or interlink multiple lights but they tend to have lower rating for how much they can run vs. separate PIRs

multiple PIRs / interlinked lights would require more wiring to interlink them and would be more complex if 1 sensor became faulty in future to determine which one will take abit longer

You can get wireless PIRs and security lights now to cut down on the wiring, steinel make some but require batteries every so often

Also there maybe some advantage in just one light coming on to show you where the detection was vs the whole outside lighting up etc
